Sleeping Under 100% Silk Cocoons Is a Whole New Feeling — One Comforter for Summer and Winter

Not the outside — the filling is 100% silk. Hi to everyone whose comforter ends up who-knows-where by morning — I’m Hide, tech journalist and part-time house-husband. I found a comforter better than any luxury one I’ve tried.

This time I tried “Vesta,” an amazing comforter whose filling is 100% silk. Through a connection, I got to use it before its release — but of course, this review has no sugarcoating.

## The strange experience of not being cold — and not sweating either

It’s no exaggeration to say this is the comforter I’d been looking for. Even for me, having invested in fairly pricey down comforters and other bedding, it was a surprising experience.

With the brutal heat lately, I’ve been leaving the AC on all night more often. But at night, when the outside temperature drops, it gets a bit chilly — and that’s the problem. A blanket is just right when I first fall asleep, but I’d often wake up cold during the night.

From my very first night with Vesta, that completely stopped. I was amazed.

At first it’s substantial enough that I thought, “Even with the AC on, won’t this be a bit hot?” But once you’re under it, you don’t feel the chill of the AC — and you’re not hot either.

I went to bed thinking, “Surely I’ll sweat or kick it off at some point…” and slept soundly until morning. No sweat, not hot, not cold. The temperature just stayed right — a totally new experience.

You can’t use a down comforter in summer, and summer-weight down isn’t quite enough in winter. Vesta, on the other hand, has decent thickness and warmth, so it seems like it’d be warm enough on its own in winter too. (I haven’t been able to test that yet, so I can’t say for sure...)

I also like that even the queen size doesn’t take up much space when stored. We use a sofa bed at home, so space for storing bedding is limited, but it fit in that tiny space. It even fits together with our Airweave mattress, so I think it’s really impressive.

## Care and everyday use are well thought out

Practicality is well thought out too. First, care: apparently all you need to do is air the comforter out in the shade once a month. Silk naturally doesn’t hold on to odors and sweat, so just airing it in the shade brings it back to like-new.

It’s also smart that the duvet cover is bamboo rather than silk. That means the fabric touching your skin can go in the washing machine, and even the dryer on low heat. Bamboo feels cool to the touch, so it’s comfy in summer, and it has a silky sheen and a premium feel.

If the cover were silk, it would feel luxurious but be a real pain to care for. Choosing bamboo makes it way more practical — I liked that.

I also liked that the cover is easy to put on and never shifts. When I used another company’s summer comforter before, it shifted all the time even though it had stoppers in all four corners.

Vesta uses big buttons and corner stoppers, so taking the cover on and off is super easy. And it doesn’t shift at all, so folding it up on busy mornings is never frustrating.

How easy the cover goes on and off is a big plus

The downside of luxury bedding has always been how careful you need to be with care, so I really liked this practical design.

Weight is the only catch? Worth it if comfort is your priority

If there’s one thing where it loses to down, it’s the weight. Maybe I noticed because it’s queen size, but at 1.6 kg it feels a bit heavy. Compared to down, which is all about being light and warm, a lot of people might notice the weight.

With a single size, it might not be as noticeable...

I thought some people might mind it, but personally, I actually liked how the slight heaviness makes you feel wrapped up.

That part comes down to preference, but I was really surprised by — and love — how “the temperature just stays right.” It’s definitely better than any comforter I’ve used, so I want to write another review after using it through the whole year.
