“Copy Us If You Can” — The Incredible Robotics Behind Robosen’s Self-Transforming Transformers

“What if a Transformer could actually transform by itself?” Robosen took that childhood dream and made it real with serious robotics tech.

They’re pricey. But once you see one move, the craftsmanship makes you go “…I want this.” And yep — I ended up getting Optimus Prime.

This isn’t so much a luxury toy as Robosen’s robotics tech packed into the shape of a Transformer.

Auto-transforming is every grown-up kid’s dream

Robosen’s biggest draw is fully automatic transformation. Optimus Prime goes from robot to truck, Grimlock from robot to dinosaur — at the push of a button, they really transform.

You don’t move the parts by hand. A ton of servo motors inside work together, driving complex mechanisms one after another. No matter how many times I watch it, it gets me hyped.

Grimlock walks in both forms

The model that best shows off Robosen’s tech is the Flagship Grimlock.

It’s not just the transforming. It walks on two legs in robot mode, auto-transforms into a dinosaur, and then walks on two legs as a dinosaur too — a world first.

Transforming alone is crazy complex, and then it balances and walks after transforming? “Well-made toy” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

“Aren’t you worried about being copied?”

The movements were so precise that during my interview I asked the Robosen team, “You’re showing off this much tech — aren’t you worried others will copy it?”

Their answer, roughly: precisely controlling this many servo motors at high speed isn’t something you can easily copy.

Got it. Like the title says: “copy us if you can.”

It’s not something you can build just by stuffing in lots of high-performance motors. Controlling all of them at once, precisely, is Robosen’s real strength.

Not just one — they work together

Even cooler: compatible models can interact with each other.

Multiple Transformers react to one another as they move, so you can enjoy action that feels like a scene from the show playing out in front of you.

Remembering how I used to smash figures together in each hand as a kid, that’s a mind-blowing leap.

To my daughter, it’s not a robot — it’s a friend

What surprised me was how moved my daughter was too.

To me, these are the Transformers I grew up with. To her, it’s something that moves, talks, and transforms right in front of her. Before I knew it, she was treating it less like a robot and more like a friend.

Grown-ups marvel at the tech; kids love it as a character. Two generations enjoying the same gadget might be something only Robosen can pull off.

Expensive. But I got Optimus Prime anyway

And in the end, I picked up Optimus Prime for myself.

The battery drains a bit fast when you play with it, but with this many servos moving, that’s fair. More than anything, the satisfaction of talking to it, watching it move and walk, and then turn into a truck right in front of you is off the charts.

It’s definitely not a cheap purchase. But if you’ve been watching Transformers since the ’80s, the feeling of a childhood dream coming true will hit hard.

Every once in a while, treat yourself to something you genuinely want as an adult.

And before you know it, you’re enjoying it together with your kid.

Robosen’s Transformers are a bundle of robotics tech that gets grown-ups and kids equally hooked.
